STACKING DETAILS:- Grommet drapes have a clean look that is stylish and neat. They can be used in contemporary settings and also work well in many other decorative settings. A plus factor about this style is they stack really tightly. In fact they have the tightest stacking ability of all draperies as the folds pleat back against each other and it is only the combined thickness of the fabric and the grommet that create the stack width. Typically a Single Sunbella Canvas Panel will stack to less than 3 inches on the rod

WIDTHS and PANELS:- Let me explain some important drapery terms that you will need to understand in order to measure purchase the correct width and length of your drapery. We start off using 54 inches WIDE Sunbrella fabric and we sew 1-1/2 inch SIDE HEMS on each side. This results in a SINGLE WIDTH PANEL that is 48 inches wide flat panel. When required we join MULTIPLE WIDTHS together to make WIDER PANELS. By the way the Box Stores who sell off the peg draperies online have a maximum of 2 width wide panels, however we can make any width of drapery by joining multiple widths together. We often make up to 8 widths wide but are not limited to the amount of widths we can sew together.

CALCULATING DRAPERY WIDTHS:- When we sew a single width for example, it is 48 inch wide when it is measured FLAT on a table. One may be confused and think this is how much space the panel will cover on a rod. To hang a grommet drape, the rod is inserted through the GROMMET HOLES. As a result the fabric winds back and forth over the rod thus REDUCING the overall width of the panel. Once a grommet drape is threaded onto a rod, the MAXIMUM WIDTH it can be stretched out to is a total of 33 inches. Needless to say with the drapery dressed this way, the panel does not look attractive as the grommets will be at different angles and the panels look skimpy as they are not double fullness.
DOUBLE FULLNESS is a common term used in drapery manufacture and it refers to the amount of fabric required to make a drapery look attractive and hang correctly. Using this standard it is ideal for a single width panel to cover 24 inches of rod - this way one achieves double fullness.

An easy way to calculate have many widths you need is as follows. Measure your TOTAL ROD LENGTH and divide it by 24. This will give you the total amount of widths required to cover the rod at DOUBLE FULLNESS. This would be for a ONE WAY DRAW. If you require a SPLIT DRAW, divide the total on two. You may have to round up or down to make full widths or half widths. Here is an example: TOTAL ROD LENGTH = 96 inches. Divide 96 by 24 = 4 widths. If you have a One Way Draw you would order ONE PANEL that is 4 WIDTHS WIDE. If you have a SPLIT DRAW you would take the 4 Widths and divide by 2, giving you TWO PANELS of 2 WIDTHS WIDE each. Here is another example where you will have to ROUND UP. Let say your rod is 115 inches. Divide 115 by 24 = 4.79 width. You will need to round this up to 5 widths as a One Way Draw and 2-1/2 widths as a Split Draw. You can also do this the easy way and visit this link where we have a width and length calculator. CALCULATING DRAPERY LENGTH: - This is an easy one!. Simply measure from the TOP OF YOUR ROD [ or estimate where the rod will be installed] to the FLOOR. We make the TOP INSIDE OF THE GROMMET, (that will touch the rop of the rod), one inch from the top of the drapery or header as it is called. For OUTDOOR SUNBRELLA DRAPERIES we recommend 1 inch off the floor, so if you measure this size, they will be perfect and will not scuff in the wind. For INDOOR Sunbrella draperies, add on extra to accommodate for this 1 inch difference. Typically indoor draperies are 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch off the floor or they may pool or have a trouser break.
